Tanzania’s President John Magufuli Dies At 61

Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli has died from heart complications after the leader went missing for at least two weeks.

In a televised announcement on State Television on Wednesday, March 17, Tanzania’s Vice-President Samia Suluhu Hassan broke the news of Magufuli’s passing.

Magufuli widely lauded for his strong stance against government bureaucratic inefficiency and corruption came to power in October 2015 running on the ruling Party ticket.

While rumours had been circulating that Magufuli had been hospitalized due to Covid-19 outside Tanzania, Vice President Hassan said Magufuli was hospitalized on March 6 at the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute in Dar Er Salaam.
