Sheperd Bushiri and his wife Mary Bushiri have been granted bail by the Pretoria Commercial Crimes Court on a R100,000 bail. The leader of the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) Church and his wife are facing charges of fraud and money laundering.
Represented by their lawyer Barry Roux, the couple have been granted bail with the case being postponed to the 10th of May 2019. Outside the court, hundreds of Bushiri supporters celebrated as the self styled prophet was released from Police custody.
The State did not oppose the bail application and the bail conditions include restrictions on travel between Gauteng and Northwest Provinces, and any travel outside these provinces will require permission from the investigation officer.
The couples travel documents have also been handed over to the police and they have also been told not to make contact with any of the witnesses.
