Mnangagwa worse than Mugabe – Chamisa

Zimbabwe’s main opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) party leader Nelson Chamisa has faulted President Emmerson Mnangagwa over his government’s handling of opposition protests against a recent fuel price hike, saying he was no different to his predecessor, Robert Mugabe.

Speaking on Monday’s edition of BBC’s Focus on Africa programme, Chamisa who lost to Mnangagwa in the disputed July 30 Presidential elections said the excitement for a better future that followed Mugabe’s shock resignation in November 2017 had died down among Zimbabweans.

“The only difference is that Mnangagwa seems to be worse, worse because he’s using the army against protesters, against demonstrators but also against MDC in a very bad way,” said Chamisa.

Mnangagwa recently raised fuel prices which sparked the protests that have killed 12 people so far.
