As the race for the 2019 Presidential race heats up, the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has been dealt a severe blow as internal wrangles within the party threaten the party’s chances of winning the 2019 general elections.
The High Court in Blantyre, has granted an injunction to five of its members who applied to have legal redress after they were fired from the party recently.
This means that, the party will be barred from holding a convention until a proper disciplinary hearing has been held after their claims that they were unfairly removed from the party.
Judge Healey Potani granted the injuction to Tony Kandiero, Jessie Kabwila, MCP Vice President and speaker of Parliament Richard Msowoya and two others who challenged Sidik Mia’s ascendancy in the party and were consequently relieved of their duties by Lazarus Chakwera who is set on having Mia as his running mate in 2019.
