Barely hours after news surfaced that corruption suspect and Zuneth Sattar Business associate, Ashok Nair, was suing Martha Chizuma for defamation, a Facebook page believed to be Martha Chizuma’s issued a cryptic message with the legal Maxim, “He Who Comes into Equity Must Come With Clean Hands”.
The maxim is the basis of the clean hands doctrine whose purpose is to protect the integrity of the court. This maxim bars relief for anyone guilty of improper conduct in the matter at hand. It operates to prevent any affirmative recovery for the person with “unclean hands,” no matter how unfairly the person’s adversary has treated him or her.
The Facebook post attracted over 1,700 comments with many Malawians standing in solidarity with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Chief in her fight against corruption.
Meanwhile, The Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has come out publicy supporting Chizuma, who, according to Gift Trapence the HRDC Chairperson, has exhibited a dedication to her duty t fight corruption.
Trapence further called on all well meaning Malawians to stand behind Chizuma in the face of numerous threats and obstacles.
Chizuma is also facing criminal charges over the leaked audio clip in which she insinuated that Nair had bribed the judge in order to get a favorable bail ruling.
