Mapeto Tax Evasion Case Adjourned to next week Thursday 3 June 2021

The sensational case of Faisal Gaffar Latif owner of Mapeto David Whitehead & Sons and other high ranking officials in the company as well as two MRA Officers in a suspected K10.8 Billion Tax evasion scam has been adjourned to Thursday 6 June 2021.

The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has since seized several goods and documents regarding the case until the final determination of the court proceedings.

The two MRA officers, Tsepiso Kaunda and George Mwaluka, who stand accused of helping Mapeto in the tax fraud have pleaded not guilty to the charges laid against them before Chief Resident Magistrate Kayira.

Mwaluka and Kaunda are accused of aiding and abetting smuggling contrary to sections 133 (c) and 142, including conspiracy to commit customs offenses contrary to section 132 (j) and 142 of the Customs & Excise Act of the Laws of Malawi.
