The five accused officials and directors from Mapeto DWS have been granted bail and their case has been moved from the Senior Resident Magistrate Court to the Chief Resident Magistrate’s court in Blantyre.
The bail conditions include a bail bond of MWK10,000,000 each; two reliable sureties of blood relatives in Malawi for each accused person, bonded at MWK50,000,000.00 (non-cash) and a requirement to report to Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) offices every fortnight on Mondays until the trial starts. The accused have also been ordered to surrender their travel documents.
Meanwhile, two other co-accused, George Mwaluka and Tsepiso Kaunda, who happen to be employees of the MRA, have pleaded not guilty to the charges laid before them in connection to the same case.
Business tycoon, Faizal “Mapeto” Latif handed himself over to the MRA in the presence of hos lawyer Jai Banda on Sunday after police had already arrested the other five officials on Friday.
