United States President Donald Trump has declared that he never worked for Russia in the wake of accusations suggesting that he may have once served the interests of Moscow and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
“I never worked for Russia. I think it’s a disgrace you even asked that question,” Trump told a reporter who had asked him at the White House on Monday about his links with Russia according to Voice of America (VoA).
Earlier, The New York Times reported that officials from the Federal Bureau of Investigations had instituted a probe into whether the US leader “was knowingly working for Russia or had unknowingly fallen under Moscow’s influence” because of his conduct after firing ex-FBI director James Comey in May 2017.
Comey was then leading an FBI inquiry into Russia’s alleged meddling in the 2016 US elections in which Trump defeated Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
The Washington Post recently also claimed that Trump hid details of his conversations with Putin for at least five times during the times he purportedly met with the Russian leader over the past two years.
