A six-year old boy in Ntchisi drowned earlier this month in Kavuma River where he had gone to swim with his friends.
Ntchisi Police Station spokesperson Gladson M’bumpha identified the deceased as Timothy Kondwani of Chiondo Village in Traditional Authority Nthondo in the district.He said the boy alongside four others aged between 3 and 6 years went to the river to swim.
“When he swam in deep waters and failed to return, his friends shouted for help and people from the village went into the river to search for him. His body was then rushed to Nthondo Health Centre where he was pronounced dead upon arrival,” he said.
A post-mortem indicated that the death was due to suffocation.
