Bon Kalindo the sitting MP for Mulanje East will not be contesting on the United Transformation Movement (UTM) tickect in Mulanje and has opted to contest as Member of Parliament for Blantyre City East (Machinjiri) under the same party colours.
Kalindo who was a recent victim of political violence said he did not want to compete with his cousin Santiago Phiri who will be running for MP in Mulanje East on the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) ticket in May’s Tripartite elections.
“Me and my cousins are in good books and I cannot allow that we should become enemies just because we are in politics,” said Kalindo. He will be facing John Bande who is also running for MP in Blantyre East Constituency.
Winiko as Kalindo is popularly known, is the current UTM Party director of Youth and has been extremely vocal about the misgivings of the current DPP led government.
