Trump hits at US intelligence over Iran, North Korea

United States (US) President Donald Trump on Wednesday called heads of American intelligence “extremely passive and naive” after they allegedly contradicted his views on threats to the US by Iran and North Korea as well as that of Islamic State (ISIL) on Iraq and Syria.

The US intelligence community is said to have told a Senate meeting on Tuesday that Pyongyang’s nuclear threat remained adding that Iran was not taking steps steps towards making a nuclear bomb.

This sharply contrasted with Trump’s assessments of those countries after he earlier cited Iran’s rocket launches as having started “coming very close to the edge”.

“The Intelligence people seem to be extremely passive and naive when it comes to the dangers of Iran. They are wrong!…Perhaps Intelligence should go back to school!” Trump said in series of tweets.

The assessments by the intelligence officials also contradicted Trump’s doubts on the threat posed by Russia to US elections, Isil threats and North Korea’s commitment to denuclearize.
