People of Chaima Village in Traditional Authority Pemba in Salima have engaged in afforestation as one way dealing with climate change, low soil fertility and depletion of forestry resources. Chaima Afforestation Club chairperson Esnart Charles said women and girls are struggling to get amenities such as water, firewood and food. Club member Robert Phiri said group village head Chaima was instrumental in mobilising villages under him to support the campaign. Chaima Village, together with four others have managed to raise over 20,000 trees.
