Police arrest 14 Suspects in K6.2 Billion Covidgate corruption scandal

Police have arrested 14 people suspected to have abused part of K6.2 billion Covid-19 funds.

National Police spokesperson, James Kadadzera, says among those arrested are; former Director of Information, Mzati Mkolokosa, Administration Officer in the Office of President and Cabinet, Prince Mtelela, Department of Immigration and Citizenship Commissioner, Pudenciana Makalamba as well as Martin Mainja of Post Chem 1B.

He has indicated that 10 others have been arrested in various district councils across the country and that more arrests are imminent.

Kadadzera says, among others, the suspects will be charged with theft by public servant.

President Lazaurus Chakwera in his speech made on Sunday night ordered Secretary for President and Cabinet Zangazanga Chikhosi to interdict without pay the officers under whose watch the looting took place.

Chakwera has also dropped Minister Ken Kandodo for using Covid-19 relief money for allowances.

President Chakwera also said he wants a speedy handling of cases of the K6.2 billion Covid funds.

He says all firms involved in the looting will be barred from doing business with government.

Chakwera has prayed that God’s curse be on anyone who is involved in the looting of the Covid funds.
