Dedza East member of Parliament (MP) Juliana Lunguzi (Malawi Congress Party-MCP) yesterday asked government to produce a report on how much the country is benefiting from Malawian Airlines. In her response to President Peter Mutharika’s State of the Nation Address (Sona), Lunguzi observed that the Malawi Government and Ethiopian Airlines joint venture is not benefiting the country.
She said, “We need a report from the Minister of Transport and Public Works on how much this country has benefited from Malawian Airlines. We need this report because some of us have received reports that the deal is not benefiting Malawi. Now, if Malawi is not benefiting, why do we still need it?”
Speaking in an interview outside the Parliament chambers, Lunguzi said there is need to review the agreement Malawi signed with Ethiopian Airlines to ensure both parties are benefiting from the deal.
