Minister of Information Gospel Kazako asks Airtel to reduce number of foreign staff

Minister of information Gospel Kazako has asked Airtel Malawi to reduce the number of foreign nationals working for the company in Malawi and start creating room for indigenous Malawians.

He said this during a press briefing organised by Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (Macra) and Airtel Malawi.

Following Kazako’s earlier request that Malawian Telco’s and ISP’s should consider reducing the tariff rates on Data Airtel Malawi Managing Director Charles Kamoto has announced increasing benefits of its bundles and reduction of Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) tariffs from K15/MB to K5/MB, with effect from 3 August 2020.

Kazako’s plea had promoted an popular online campaign with some of the following hashtags #dataMustFall, #ReduceDataCosts on social media.
