Sergio Agüero scored a hat-trick and walked away as the man of the match as Manchester City thrashed Chelsea F.C 6-0 at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester to go top of the Premier League.
While City were billed as favorites based on their current form and pedigree, few had expected such a scoreline with Chelsea four goals down within the first twenty-five minutes.
Raheem Sterling opened the floodgates just after four minutes before Agüero scored two within the space of six minutes, first with a long range effort from outside the box into the top corner in the thirteenth minute before taking advantage of Chelsea’s defensive lapse in the 18th minute to score from close range.
Ilkay Gündogan piled on the misery in the 25th minute while a clever run from Sterling earned City a penalty after he was brought down in the box. Agüero stepped up calmly to send the Chelsea keeper the wrong way to claim his hat-trick.
With Chelsea already thoroughly humiliated, Sterling who opened up the scoring stepped up and closed the goal scoring proceedings in the 80th minute with a cool tap in as Chelsea dropped from position 5 to 6 with their goal advantage over Arsenal wiped out.
It remains to be seen how patient the top brass at Stamford Bridge will be with Chelsea’s Head Coach who has now lost three away games in a row in humiliating fashion.
