Malawi has been given the green light to host the Cosafa U-17 tournament in October with conditions that the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) will have to finance 25 percent of the tourney’s cost while Cosafa will take care of the rest.
According to Suzgo Nyirenda FAM’s Cheif Executive Officer, “Cosafa will meet all accomodation and local running expenses for the 14 participating teams at the hotels to be chosen with the assistance of FAM”.
The Ministry of Labour, Youth, Sports and Manpower has said government is ready to work hand in hand with FAM to make sure everything is ready for the tournament.
“We have the capacity to host such a tournament. We have the stadiums which will be used for the tournament. Most of these conditions set are are what we normally do when hosting events, so it’s not a big deal. We will engage other ministries on issues like visas and waiving of tax on sports equipment,” said Jameson Ndalama who is the Ministry’s Director of Sports.
Malawi last won the cup after beating South Africa 3-0 in 2001.
