Malawi Government gazettes new measures for Covid-19: Wearing masks in public is Mandatory

Government has gazetted rules and regulations, under Public Health Act,on mandatory wearing of face masks in public places as a measure to contain Covid-19.

Faced with increasing numbers of Covid-19 positive cases as well as deaths, Minister of Health Khumbize Chiponda, in exercise of her powers under the Public Health Act, has today issued the subsidiary legislation on coronavirus and Covid-19 aimed at stopping the spread.

Government has been working on gazetting rules and regulations that would see to it that Malawians are wearing the Covid-19 face masks on mandatory basis in public spaces to contain the spread of Coronavirus.

Within the regulations, public gatherings are banned except during funerals or meetings of the National Assembly as well as meetings convened to discuss Covid-19.
