Malawi Bureau of Standards warns traders

The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) has warned traders of stiff punishment if found using counterfeit scales in their business transactions. The news is a relief to local customers and smallholder farmers who fall prey to traders using fake scales when they are buying commodities, especially farm produce, as well as when selling the same to consumers.

MBS Director General, Delvin Chokazinga said this in Mzuzu at the weekend during a market sensitization campaign. He said his organisation has noted an influx of illegal scales in various markets hence the need to sensitize consumers on the disadvantages of using non-trade ones.
