A 48 year old man identified as Alick Zithera died last week after being struck by lightning while working in his maize field. The incident occurred while the man was seeking shelter from the the rain under a big rock. According to Dowa Police Station spokesperson Richard Kaponda, the deceased died on the spot and the relatives discovered his body a day later after he did not return home the previous day.
The matter was reported to Dowa Police Station and police visited the scene of the accident where officers together with medical officials who conducted a post mortem on the body. The Post-mortem results indicated that he dided due to electric shock, secondary to lightning. Zithera came from Chithowa Village, T/A Mkulula in Dowa District.
