LafargeHolcim Malawi has awarded 10 employees for their long service with the Malawian cement manufacturing company. Penjani Mhango, the company’s head of mechanical engineering, who has worked for 25 years, and nine others, were given monetary rewards ranging from MWK50,000 to MWK250,000 depending on the length of their service to LafargeHolcim.
Speaking in an interview on behalf of his colleagues, he said his 25-year journey has been a mixed bag. Mhango’s job ensures that the plant is operational 24 hours everyday. LafargeHolcim Malawi human resources manager Haston Chamba said it is one of the company’s strategies to retain the skills they have. He said: “we recognize the employees who have served the company for longer times because we appreciate that there is a lot they have done to contribute to the growth of the company.
“We aim to retain staff with the right skills and right attitude all the time. The staff we have are highly motivated, they love the company and work hard to get results.”
