Karonga man arrested for firearm possession

Police at Kaporo in Karonga are keeping in custody 46 year old Linwick Mbughi for allegedly being found in possession of a firearm without the requisite permit.

District police spokesperson Enock Livason said the law enforcers received an alert from members of the general public that Mbughi was keeping a firearm illegally at Kalambo Village along the border strip with Tanzania.

“Following the tip off, police searched Mbughi’s house on Sturday and found that he was keeping a rifle without a permit.”

Mbughi has been formally charged with illegal possession of a firearm contrary to the laws of the Republic of Malawi. Mbughi is from the same area he was arrested and charged in.
