Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President, Walter Nyamilandu, has said he has never harboured any political ambitions.
Nyamilandu was addressing concerns raised by Ulemu Msungama the newly appointed Minister of Youth & Sports.
Msungama said he had been disappointed the Nyamilandu’s involvement with politics when his position demanded that he should be non-partisan.
In response, Nyamilandu said, “I would not love to be drawn into a debate with the minister because he is my boss…All I can say is that I am not a politician. I’m just striving to help develop football in the country.”
During 2019 Malawi Presidential Elections, Nyamilandu was closely linked with Peter Mutharika’s DPP party as he was spotted wearing a Blue DPP Beret.
FAM’s rationale in the sponsorship of the DPP Presidential Nomination papers was also called into question.
