The High Court in Lilongwe yesterday revoked bail for Cashgate suspect, “Bwana” Limumba Karim. Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Mary Kachale submitted to judge Esme Chombo that cashgate boss Karim had jumped bail on the pretext that he was feeling unwell. Kachale said attempts to get proof of the suspect’s ill health did not yield any fruitful result.
Karim’s lawyer, Wapona Kita had just been verbally telling the court that his client Limumba Karim is unwell; and that he is in South Afica receiving treatment, though written proof of his illness was not provided. Karim’s bail has since been revoked and a warrant for his arrest has been issued.
Karim hit the headlines in 2015 after a video featuring himself and rapper Tay Grin in Sandton (South Africa) was released on Instagram. The video seemingly poked fun at his non-chalance attitude towards Malawians’ poverty with the “Sizimatikhuza” tag line.
