Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (Macra) has fined Airtel Malawi a sum of K820 million for failing to comply with minimum local shareholding requirements.
Airtel had up to November 2018 to comply with the requirement which they did not, and were then fined K500 million.
From November 2018 till July 2019, they have were charged K20 million every fourteen days, totaling to the K820 million.
The company has since paid the fine.
Airtel risks being charged K20 million power fortnight if they will not comply with the provision.
