Nkhata Bay first grade magistrate Anthony Banda has sentenced Stanley Thela, 20, to seven years imprisonment for stealing K5000. Nkhata Bay Police Station spokesperson Ignatius Esau said Thela and another accomplice who is still on the run last month met victim, Zgolani Munyenyembe, who was coming from a social outing and demanded money. When Munyenyembe refused, the two assaulted the victim and stole his K5000.
Magistrate Bana noted that cases of robbery were on the rise in the district and that only a stiffer sentence would change the situation. Thela comes from Mkumpha Village, Traditional Authority Timbili in Nkhata Bay.
