21 Savage has been arrested by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) who say the rapper is illegally present in the United States.
The rapper whose real name is Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, and claimed to be born and bred in Atlanta actually entered the United States in July 2005 as a minor and is a citizen of the United Kingdom.
The Grammy nominated rapper failed to depart the United States after his visa expired a year later in 2006 is now facing removal proceedings initiated by the ICE in a federal immigration court.
His lawyer Dina LaPolt said she was trying to get the rapper out of detention while working to clear up any misunderstandings.
“Mr Abraham-Joseph is a role model to the young people in the country – especially in Atlanta, Georgia and is actively working in the community leading programs to help underprivileged youths in financial literacy,” she added.
