Mwanza First Grade Magistrate Court on September 18, 2017 sentenced Allan Kwada, 18, to eight years imprisonment with hard labour(IHL) fir robbery. On April 28 this year, Kwada attacked two G4S guards at their work station and robbed them of a computer server and other electronic gadget.
Kwada was arrested on July 7, 2017 and when he appeared before the court he pleaded not guilty to the charge of robbery.However, four witnesses testified against him and he was found guilty of robbery and was subsequently sentenced to eight years in jail. Kwada hails from Machilika Village T/A Nthache in Mwanza.
In another case, Yahaya Jenda, 25, has been sentenced to six years IHL and two years IHL for house breaking and theft, respectively. On September 7, Yahaya broke into the house of Bridget Moyo in the same district and stole various household items valued at MWK486,000.00. He was arrested on the same day he committed the offenceand appeared before court on September 11, 2017 where he pleaded guilty.
Magistrate Ranwell Mangazi said it was essential to protect the society from people like Jenda, who hails from Kambale village T/A Chekucheku in Neno. The jail sentences will run consecutively.
